Sarah Ruth Everett O’Bryant passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in her home in Reidsville, North Carolina. Born on December 19, 1929, in Summerfield, North Carolina, the daughter of Charles Erazmus Everett (deceased) and Mary Kyle Haynes Everett (deceased). Ruth attended Summerfield School. She is preceded in death by her four siblings: Charles Haynes Everett, Marjorie Everett Rippy, Jean Walker O’Bryant, and John Edward Everett.
Ruth married her husband James O’Bryant, in 1948, and they were married for 61 years before his passing in 2009. They had two daughters; Debi Stepp, married to Ray Stepp, and Donna Carter, married to Steve Carter.
She greatly enjoyed spending time with her Grandchildren: Heather Parrish, married to David Parrish; Steven Carter, married to Katie Carter; and James Stepp, married to Mercedez Stepp. She cherished spending time with her 8 great-grandchildren: Carter Parrish, Luke Parrish, Avery Parrish, Cody Carter, Kaylie Carter, Brenden Stepp, Madden Stepp, and Harlan Stepp. Ruth immensely appreciated her caregiver: Darla Carter, as she helped Ruth with all her daily needs for the past 5 years.
Ruth regularly attended church and was a current member of Fairview Baptist Church. James and Ruth also attended Midway United Methodist Church for many years. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed going to the gym and spending time with her friends at Family Fitness, reading, working puzzles, and being with the people she loved. She was the Atlanta Braves #1 Fan. Ruth loved helping her community and worked at several local businesses: Guilford Dairy, Love Tractor Sales, Sears, and Dixons Daycare.
A funeral service will be held in Ruth’s honor on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Fairview Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 pm followed by a service at 3:00 pm on Tuesday. The graveside will be held at Hillsdale Primitive Baptist Church in Summerfield, NC, following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged for the Hospice of Rockingham County. Arrangements are being handled by Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, NC. The family is receiving family & friends at her home.
