Obituary: JAMES ALONZA “JIMMY” WALKER

James Alonza “Jimmy” Walker, 90, of Reidsville, NC went to be with the Lord Wednesday August 23, 2023 at the Gibson House Hospice of Rockingham County.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday September 7, 2023 at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC with full military honors.

A native of Rockingham County, he was a son of the late Alonzo Hanby “Lonnie” and Nellie “Nell” Carroll Walker and was a retired US Air Force veteran retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel with twenty years of service. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he and his family moved back to Reidsville in 1975 and started a new career as a teacher. Jimmy taught at Reidsville Senior High for 16 years and retired a second time from the Rockingham County School System. He also taught Adult Science at Rockingham Community College for several years. He was a graduate of Reidsville Senior High and NC State University and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 67 years where he taught Sunday School for over 20 years. Later he joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the Lutheran Church Council.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years: Ruth D.L. E. Walker (Wehrmann) who died August 16, 2011, and his In-Laws: Lina and Carl Wehrmann of Germany.

Survivors include his daughters: Ruth Carol Walker of Reidsville, Annette Marie Walker of Winston-Salem, and Christine Anne Walker of Fayetteville.

Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Walker family.
