Obituary: WILLIAM DOUGLAS “BILLY” HAMMACK

William Douglas Hammack, affectionately known as Billy, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning (June 12, 2023) at Eden Rehab Facility. He was 81 years old.

A native of Caswell Co., he was a son of the late Douglas Travis and Nellie Wray Hammack and lived in Reidsville most of his life. Billy was a former employee of Food Lion for twenty-two years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dare Matherly “Peggy” Hammack and his parents, Douglas and Nellie.

Billy’s greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, beach trips, and being at the Monroeton Golf Course. He was also an avid outdoorsman where he worked in Landscaping for ten years.

The family will accept family and friends at Citty Funeral Home Thursday, June 15th from 6p-8p, and funeral services will be conducted at 2pm on Friday at Citty Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens. COVID Protocol will be in effect, masks if you have any symptoms.

Surviving is his sister, Betsy Hammack of Yanceyville NC, his brothers Donald Hammack of Yanceyville NC and Joseph Hammack and wife Susan of Yanceyville NC, and his sister Barbara Jean Shelton of Reidsville and husband Roger.

Surviving are sons: Roger Hammack of Brown Summit and partner Mae Cummings and Craig Hammack of Reidsville and wife Wendy.

Surviving grandchildren: Kendra Harrison of Burlington and husband Willie, Dare Hammack of Rock Hill SC and girlfriend Brandy Sizemore and Kamron Hammack of Raleigh NC and girlfriend Ivy Rosario.

Surviving Step grandchildren: Kendra Cummings of Ridgeway VA and girlfriend Shadelia Gregory and Kevon Cummings of Reidsville.

Surviving Great grandchildren: Jabez Cummings, Leah Jeffries, Leland Jeffries Jr., Lennox Jeffries, Pierre Harrison.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter (William Hammack) or to the American Cancer Society.
