Obituary: RILEY SIMON BROOKS

Riley Simon Brooks, 80, of 1700 Mt. Carmel Church Road, went home to be with The Lord, Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Penn Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2023, at New Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Lawson officiating. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens with military graveside honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at New Heights Baptist Church on Saturday.

Riley was born July 16, 1942, in Henry Co. Virginia to the late Simon K. and Blanche C. Brooks. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Fay Brooks; brothers Paul R. Brooks and Jimmy W. Brooks; and his beloved Basset Hound, Riley’s “Gracie” Mae.

He is survived by wife of 56 years Marie Wyatt Brooks; son Jason M. Brooks and wife Kimberly Hill Brooks, and grand dog Jude; sister Mildred B. Gann; sister-in-law Bea Brooks; along with several nieces and nephews.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, during the Viet Nam War.

He was a faithful and longtime member of New Heights Baptist Church, a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Boy Scouts of America.

A very giving man, Riley loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This was known without asking due to his actions in life. He loved his church, family, and friends. If Riley knew you, he loved you. His favorite hobby was woodworking and over the years he built many beautiful pieces for family and friends. Until his health started to decline, he enjoyed tractor pulling with OTTPA and won over 100 trophies.

Riley entered his eternal rest with Jesus April 11, 2023, at Penn Nursing Center in Reidsville, NC.
