Richard Clarence Toney, 83, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Annie Penn Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, March 13, 2023 in Citty Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens.

A native of Raleigh Co., WV, he was one of twelve children of the late Herbert Clarence and Lena Tyree Toney. The family has lived in Reidsville for the past 62 years. Richard was a truck driver for over 30 years, retiring from UPS. He was an Army National Guard Veteran, a member of the Teamsters Union, and enjoyed working on cars, building things, and playing with his great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings, Jimmy Wells, Patty Hall, Kate Burroughs, Billy Lowery, Olga Layne, Roger Toney, Ronald Toney, and Ralph Toney.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy Arthur Toney of the home, sons, Richard Craig Toney (Renee) of Reidsville, James Herbert Toney of Reidsville, Stephen Lanier Toney (Sherri) of Summerfield, Matthew Glenn Toney (Debbi) of Waynesboro, PA, and daughter, Carol Lynn Moore (Alvin) of Reidsville. Sisters, Gloria Deeds of Barberton, OH, Phyllis spencer of Prosperity, WV, and Lois Jackson of Charleston, WV. Grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Price, Candice (Tim) Hughes, Eric Toney, Brettany (Heath) Brown, Samantha (Eliot) Chavanne, Katie Lynn Davis, Nathan Toney, Daniel Toney, Megan (Kevin) Burnside, and Cara Toney. Great grandchildren, Garret Hughes, Gracie Hughes, Quinn Price, Joel Price, Penny Brown, Nellie Brown, Maren Brown, Evelyn Burnside, Aiden Burnside, and Emmett Chavanne.

The family will see friends from 10:00 till 11:00 AM on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Citty Funeral Home and at other times, they will be at the residence. Paw had a tender heart for children, so in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Brenners Childrens Hospital 1 Medical Center Blvd. Winston-Salem, NC 27157.
