Betty Jane Hickman Richardson “Granny Betty”, 81, of Mayodan, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at home with her four daughters by her side.

A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Victor Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Chris Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, February 27, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home.

Betty was born in Rockingham County on July 24, 1941, to the late Cecil and Nellie Goins Hickman. She was a member of Victor Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. Betty worked at Bassett-Walker and farmed tobacco. She was a very independent woman who was a caretaker to many and was loved by all. She loved to cook and read. She enjoyed eating out and going on vacations to the mountains and beach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pete Richardson, and her granddaughter, Adalynn Rochelle Heath.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patricia Wilson (Ray) of Mayodan, Judy Boyd (Tim) of Mayodan, Janet Peck (Sam) of Mayodan, and Karen Bailey (Kirk) of Lexington; her sister, Carol Wyrick of Stonevillle; her brothers, Clayton Hickman (Loretta) of Mayodan, Saford Hickman of Trinity, Tommy Hickman of Stoneville, David Hickman (Susie) of Eden, and Flint Hickman (Sharon) of Madison; 9 grandchildren, Misty Luna, Casey Brown, Shaina Heath, Kimberly Boyd, Cierra Hairston, Brittany Dement, Hannah Bailey, William Bailey, and Ava Peck; and 15 great grandchildren, Mercedes Luna, Ashton Brown, Lupillo Luna, Missouri Luna, CJ Graves, Kyshawn Hairston, Kirsten Brown, Elijah Cardwell, Ariane Hairston, Conner Goins, Brantley Goins, Ailani Martin, Jaylynn Roberts, and Quentin Hairston, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare, 2500 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405 and the family would like to thank the staff for all their care and support of Betty.
