Obituary: WILLIAM TERRELL LEWIS

William Terrell Lewis, 66, often called “ZZ Top” left this earthly life Monday, January 9, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

    William was born on September 8, 1956, in Rockingham County, to the late Willie Lee Lewis and Avis Gray Padgett Lewis. He was of the Baptist faith and a past member of Bald Hill Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with Glass Dynamics. William was a very gifted man who was a skilled carpenter, mechanic, and lawnmower repairman. He was always busy fixing things. He loved fishing, NASCAR racing, dancing, and bluegrass music.

    In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sands, and a brother, Larry Lewis.

    Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Amy Moore (Mark), Tracy Brim (Tim LeVan), and Ashley Freeman; three stepsons, Billy Holder (Patsy), Harvey Holder (Gail), and Junior Via; seven grandchildren, Damian Smith, Logan Freeman, Nathan Freeman, Madison Brim, Emma Grace Bullins, Cullen Freeman, and Alex LeVan; two brothers, Jerry and Steve Lewis; two sisters, Carolyn Hazelwood and Gwendolyn Norris (Mark) and a special friend, Florence White Lewis.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the near future.

    Special appreciation is extended to the staff at Hospice of Rockingham County.

    Colonial Funeral Home in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
