Mary Benson Morgan Atkins, 98, died peacefully while surrounded by her daughter, Emily and grandson, Anthony, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Stoneville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. Friends may sign a register and view Ms. Atkins from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Joe Dalton.
Ms. Atkins was born on June 2, 1924 in Mecklenburg County to the late Chalmers Jackson Morgan and Jennie Bell Morrow Morgan Whitley. Mary was the oldest living member of the Stoneville Pentecostal Holiness Church where she faithfully attended until she was homebound. She loved her Lord and Savior and will be remembered for being a godly woman.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Davis Atkins and son, Marvin Chalmers Atkins.
Survivors include her daughter, Emily Atkins Dalton (Joe); son, Wesley Franklin Atkins; grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Dalton; Jason Lee Dalton (Gayle), Alex Atkins (Andrea), Brian Atkins, Babette Atkins Fontaine, Kenette Marie Atkins Tyson, Vicky Atkins Ballard (Bobby), Marty Atkins (Misty and their children), Wesley Eugene Atkins (Elizabeth and their children); great-granchildren, Jacob Lee Dalton, Lynsey Faith Dalton, Cody Atkins (Dani), Sean Fontaine (Lexi), Orion Tyson, Athena Tyson, Nicholas Atkins and Anthony Atkins; great-great-grandchildren, Carsten and Colton Atkins and numerous special extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Madison-Mayodan Library, 611 Burton Street, Madison, NC 27025.
