Obituary: ANNE CARTER OAKLEY

Anne Carter Oakley, 78, passed away at Moses Cone Hospital on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Shannon Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Anne was born in Rockingham County to the late Joseph Henry Carter, Jr. and Grey Waynick Carter. She was a 1963 graduate of Reidsville High School and worked until retirement at The American Tobacco Company. Anne loved to spend time with her friends, listen to beach music, dance, and her house was always the gathering place for everyone. She was diagnosed with cancer 30 years ago and had an amazing will to live, having many ups and downs over the years, but always trudging through with a strong will to survive and an optimistic attitude.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Danny” Oakley; granddaughter, Sally Anne Jones; and son-in-law, Kurt Hodges.

She is survived by her children, David Jones and wife, Angie, and Beth Jones Hodges; grandchildren, Austin Jones and wife, Katelin, Claire Barksdale and husband, Jarrett, Justin and Tony Farmer; great grandchildren, Jackson and Hazel Rose Barksdale.
